Common Types of Collision Damage and How We Fix Them

At our auto body repair shop, we see a variety of damage types, each requiring specific expertise and techniques to restore vehicles to their pre-collision condition. Below are the most common types of damage and how our skilled technicians address them:

1. Dents (Small to Moderate)

  • Common Causes: Parking lot accidents, minor collisions, hail damage.

  • Repair Process:

    • Paintless Dent Repair (PDR): For minor dents where the paint remains intact, our technicians use specialized tools to carefully massage the dent from behind the panel, restoring the original shape without the need for paint touch-ups.

    • Traditional Dent Repair: If the dent is more severe or the paint is damaged, we will use filler materials to reshape the area. The process includes sanding, priming, and repainting to seamlessly blend with the rest of the vehicle.

2. Scratches

  • Common Causes: Scraping against objects, keying, or minor road debris.

  • Repair Process:

    • Buffing and Polishing: For surface scratches that don’t penetrate the clear coat, we use a combination of buffing compounds and polishing tools to remove the scratch and restore the shine.

    • Touch-Up Paint: For deeper scratches that reach the paint layer, we sand down the affected area and apply matching touch-up paint.

    • Complete Repaint: In cases where the scratch penetrates through multiple layers, we may need to repaint the entire panel to ensure a consistent finish.

3. Bumper Damage

  • Common Causes: Low-speed impacts, rear-end collisions, parking mishaps.

  • Repair Process:

    • Plastic Welding: For plastic bumpers, we use plastic welding techniques to fix cracks or splits, followed by sanding and repainting.

    • Bumper Replacement: If the damage is too extensive or the bumper is beyond repair, we will replace it with an OEM or aftermarket part and paint it to match the vehicle.

    • Sensor Recalibration: For modern vehicles with bumper sensors, we also recalibrate the sensors to ensure all safety features work correctly post-repair.

4. Frame and Structural Damage

  • Common Causes: High-speed collisions or severe accidents.

  • Repair Process:

    • Frame Straightening: Using computerized frame alignment machines, our technicians restore the frame to factory specifications by pulling it back into shape.

    • Welding: Any cracks or breaks in the structural components are repaired using advanced welding techniques to ensure safety and integrity.

5. Windshield and Glass Damage

  • Common Causes: Road debris, minor accidents, vandalism.

  • Repair Process:

    • Chip and Crack Repair: For minor chips and cracks, we use resin injection techniques to fill in the damage and prevent further spreading.

    • Glass Replacement: If the crack is too large or the windshield is shattered, we replace the entire windshield, ensuring proper sealing and alignment with safety systems like ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems).

Each vehicle that comes into our shop undergoes a thorough inspection, and we provide a detailed estimate before beginning any repair. Our goal is to restore the vehicle to its pre-accident condition using industry-standard techniques and high-quality parts.
